March 11, 1998

The March meeting of The International Women's Association was held in the lovely home of Honorable Tomoyuki Abe and Mrs. Abe in Evanston.

Ruth is demonstrating a modern American handshake to Motoko Abe, wife of the Consul General from Japan. If Ruth and Motoko were not posing for the camera, they would be looking each other straight in the eye as part of a proper handshake, American style. An American won't trust or believe a person unless he looks him straight in the eye!

Ruth is holding up the cover of the revised edition of her booklet, Tips on Modern American Dining Etiquette. Ruth gave a complimentary copy of her booklet to each of the wives of the Consul Generals who are living in Chicago to help them understand some of the strange and unusual customs of modern Americans!

After the lecture, Ruth, Hideko Terado from Japan and Paula Collins from the Republic of South Africa pose for the camera while Ruth demonstrates the proper way to hold a knife and fork.

Ruth accepts congratulations from Margo Wyszomirski of Spain for her lecture about modern American dining etiquette while Maite de Lasa of Cuba looks on.

Romayne Kazmer and Motoko Abe pose with Ruth one more time in the beautiful foyer of Motoko's exquisite home.
